Winnipeg Signal is a daily city-intelligence app for Winnipeg residents. It surfaces the things that could affect your day — road and lane closures, transit reroutes and delays, parking bans, snow clearing, garbage and recycling days, weather warnings, and air quality — pulled live from official City of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Transit, and Environment Canada sources.
The app says it can't find my location.
Winnipeg Signal only uses your location when you ask it to (for example, the "locate" button on the Today or Map screen). If nothing happens, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, make sure Location Services is on, find Winnipeg Signal, and set it to While Using the App. Your location is used only to find nearby disruptions — it is never sold or used to track you.
My garbage / recycling day looks wrong.
Collection days come from the City of Winnipeg Open Data and are matched to your saved Home address. For the most accurate result, open Profile → Saved places and give Home a precise street address. The card shows your next pickup as a countdown ("in 3 days", "tomorrow", "today").
How fresh is the information?
The app pulls live data each time you open it, when you tap refresh, and again when you reopen it after it's been in the background for a while. The underlying City, Transit, and weather sources update on their own schedules.
How do I turn notifications on or off?
Open Profile → Notifications. You can send yourself a test notification and enable a night-before garbage/recycling reminder. You can also manage permissions in Settings → Notifications → Winnipeg Signal.
How do I delete my data?
All of your saved places, routes, and preferences are stored only on your device. Open Profile → Privacy & data → Delete all my data to erase them, or simply delete the app. If you sent a reader note to the "Tonight in Winnipeg" section, that one lives on our server, so remove it using the remove control on the note itself, from the same device that sent it. The information doesn't match what I see on the street.
Winnipeg Signal reflects what the City and Transit publish in their open data feeds. Always follow posted signs, signals, and the direction of officials on the ground — they take precedence over anything shown in the app.
